Awards
Each year the New Jersey Branch of the International Dyslexia Association presents the following awards: the Niewswand Outstanding Student Award, the Literacy for All Award, the Community Service Award, and the Outstanding Achievement Award, to four deserving New Jersey residents. These awards are presented at the Eileen Grasso Fundraising Dinner held each year on the eve of the fall conference and recognize the achievements and dedication of individuals with dyslexia, school districts, volunteers, and NJIDA members. Any teacher, parent or individual may make a nomination (see award descriptions and requirements below).
The Neiswand Outstanding Student Award is presented annually to an individual with dyslexia living in New Jersey. This award can go to a student of any age who has committed a minimum of two years to reading remediation and demonstrates an understanding of his or her struggles, a positive attitude and motivation in the face of ongoing challenges.
The Literacy for All Award is presented annually to a public or private school or school district in any rural, suburban, or urban area of New Jersey that demonstrates a minimum of a two year commitment to a multisensory reading program and has promoted early identification and research based interventions.
The Community Service Award is presented annually to an individual who has demonstrated tireless volunteerism and unflagging dedication to advance the mission of NJIDA. The result of these noteworthy efforts have made a significant contribution in improving outcomes for individuals with dyslexia. This individual need not be a member of NJIDA.
The Outstanding Achievement Award is presented annually to a professional who, through their hard work and dedication in NJIDA, has made continuous contributions to the field of learning disabilities that have resulted in a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals with dyslexia and their families.
Past recipients of these four awards unanimously claim that the recognition made a significant difference in their lives, often giving them the courage and hope to continue in their pursuit. NJIDA is proud to honor such individuals.
